LaVoy Finicum - Part 1, by Senator Sylvia Allen

He was born in the back hills of Northern Arizona, hunting and riding horses with his father and siblings.  Born within him was a love for God, family and freedom.  "We need to put God first in our lives, strengthen our families, and fight to restore our freedoms."  LaVoy Finicum

This is a two-part update on the death of rancher LaVoy Finicum at the hands of the FBI and Oregon State Police.  Western ranchers had gone to Oregon in support of the Hammond family.  Their peaceful protest was labeled by law enforcement and some elected officials as domestic terrorism.  Federal statutes were used to prosecute western ranchers who were trying to bring national attention to the overreach of federal agencies in taking western ranchers' leases.

Legislation Co-Authored by Frank Riggs might help to Overturn Onerous Education Regulations

Did you know that the new Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has cited a piece of legislation co-authored by Frank Riggs, as the reason that recently enacted federal education regulations under the "Every Student Succeeds Act" could be nullified?

Frosty Taylor carried the following post in Sunday's MCRC Briefs.

How Much of the Common Core Standards Really Changed?

Wouldn't you think that, by now, most Arizonans know that Superintendent Diane Douglas is lying when she repeatedly tells people that Arizona's "new standards are 'No way' Common Core-like"!!  I guess she thinks that, if she repeats the lie often enough, people will believe it.

Gilbert Watch has published two side-by-side comparisons, which were put together by a mother with the Mommy Lobby:  1) The old Common Core Math compared to Arizona's New Math Standards, and 2) The old Common Core English/Language Arts standards compared to Arizona's New English/Language Arts standards.

Recently, a mother with the Mommy Lobby produced a simple, two-sided flyer that you can distribute to your friends, family, legislators, parents, children, by-standers, curiosity seekers, etc:  "How Much of the Common Core Standards Really Changed?"

For anyone who wants to know everything there is to know about Common Core, so you, too, can be sick to death of it, see below.  As for me, I'm researching homeschooling.

Arizona's Newest K-12 English/Language Arts Standards No Different than Common Core

As clearly shown in a previous article titled Arizona's Newest K-12 Math Standards No Different than Common Core, the same is true of the English/Language Arts (ELA) Standards.

One of the mothers with the Mommy Lobby has completed a 93-page side-by-side comparsion of the old Common Core K-12 ELA Standards to Arizona’s Final “repealed and replaced” Draft.

Click HERE to see with your own eyes how the Math Standards compare.

So, the next time you hear someone say how Arizona's Common Core standards have been repealed or eliminated, you will know it's a lie.

You have the evidence at your fingertips.

Why I Support Jim O’Connor for AZGOP Chair, and Not Jonathan Lines

#1:      My personal experience of Jim O’Connor has been extremely positive.  First, he educated me on the serious problems associated with Rep. J. D. Mesnard’s National Popular Vote bill (HB2456), which he brought up during last year's legislative session.  This was a complex issue, and Mr. O’Connor and I exchanged several emails and telephone calls in the process.  I also did independent research.  This resulted in an article that I published titled “Stop the National Popular Vote Compact in Arizona."  Mr. O’Connor made a very impressive appeal before the House of Representatives against the National Popular Vote leading them to defeat that bill last session.  He's prepared to do it again.

Second, as a member of the Mommy Lobby, I deeply appreciated Mr. O’Connor's leadership in LD23 in helping to pass HB2088, which protects students against surveys that gather private, personally identifiable information.  He advised his representative in LD23, Heather Carter, "Our 444 Precinct Committeemen are reflecting the opinions of the 70,000 registered republican votes in our district overwhelmingly protecting the rights of parents and children. Please represent these and other republicans who desire to restrain government overreach."  She voted in favor on reconsideration, and this bill passed. Mr. O'Connor has stood firmly in support of legislation that honors parental authority and rejects federal control of education in Arizona.
