Gilbert Community Rock Star Christine Accurso

Thanks to Jared Taylor for bringing this article to the attention of Gilbert Watch.

Have you ever heard of Christine Accurso, or did you read about her in a recent Arizona Republic article titled Benefit Dinner raises $5,000 for Gilbert woman, mother, to help pay for sarcoma treatments?

Ms. Accurso is a community rock star who exemplifies what Gilbert neighbors are all about.

Ms. Accurso was heartsick that her friend and neighbor had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and was racking up medical bills. Instead of wringing her hands, she decided to "do something." In fact, another compassionate woman, restaurant owner Christina Curley, suggested her own restaurant as the place to hold a benefit dinner.

Where I grew up, in a farming community in Central Illinois, we would have called these ladies "good Christian women."

The two women enlisted support from friends and members of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church to pass out flyers.

They expected 200. But you know….this is Gilbert. This is the home of heartfelt giving. So of course, 400 people showed up at Christina’s Italian Restaurant at Williams Field and Power roads.

More fund-raisers are being planned. Please read the article and learn how you can help. You’ll meet some mighty fine neighbors along the way.
