John H Cochrane: What to do When ObamaCare Unravels

Obama’s purpose from the beginning of his presidency has always been to "fundamentally transform America."  Part of that transformation is to destroy the free market system of health care in America, and turn it into a single payer, government run system.  The failure of Obamacare is supposed to lead to just that.  When enough Americans scream about losing their health care coverage, or having to pay providers for their deductibles, they will turn to Big Government to take care of them.  
According to John Cochrane, the Republicans had better have a better solution.  In his article "What to do When ObamaCare Unravels," he identifies a good start.   
Some excerpts:
"There is an alternative. A much freer market in health care and health insurance can work, can deliver high quality, technically innovative care at much lower cost, and solve the pathologies of the pre-existing system.
"The U.S. health-care market is dysfunctional. Obscure prices and $500 Band-Aids are legendary. The reason is simple: Health care and health insurance are strongly protected from competition. There are explicit barriers to entry, for example the laws in many states that require a "certificate of need" before one can build a new hospital. Regulatory compliance costs, approvals, nonprofit status, restrictions on foreign doctors and nurses, limits on medical residencies, and many more barriers keep prices up and competitors out. Hospitals whose main clients are uncompetitive insurers and the government cannot innovate and provide efficient cash service.
"Only deregulation can unleash competition. And only disruptive competition, where new businesses drive out old ones, will bring efficiency, lower costs and innovation.

Message to Obama: We are NOT Subjects!

In case you missed it, Laura Hollis has written an excellent article about Obama’s imperial administration, focused primarily on Obamacare.  Ms. Hollis is an attorney and teaches entrepreneurship and business law at the University of Notre Dame. 
The article, titled "We are not SUBJECTS (and other Observations about Obamacare)" recently appeared in Townhall.  
It begins:
"The unveiling of the dictatorial debacle that is Obamacare absolutely flabbergasts me. It is stunning on so many levels, but the most shocking aspect of it for me is watching millions of free Americans stand idly by while this man, his minions in Congress and his cheerleaders in the press systematically dismantle our Constitution, steal our money, and crush our freedoms.
The President, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (with no small help from Justice John Roberts) take away our health care, and we allow it. They take away our insurance, and we allow it. They take away our doctors, and we allow it. They charge us thousands of dollars more a year, and we allow it. They make legal products illegal, and we allow it. They cripple our businesses, and we allow it. They announce by fiat that we must ignore our most deeply held beliefs – and we allow it.
Where is your spine, America"?

Medicaid Expansion is not Insurance; It’s a Loan

In a December 15, 2013 blog article titled "If you Like your house, You can Keep your house," the brave new world of "Medicaid Expansion" gets murky: 
"On October 17, Beverly Woods asked a disturbing question on the DailyKos.com website.What happens to the assets of people who now meet the expanded criteria for Medicaid?  Medicaid was designed to ensure healthcare for the truly destitute, and existing state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are based on the assumption that people on Medicaid have essentially no disposable assets. The Act Formerly Known as Obamacare changes that.
" Medicaid does not insure Americans against medical expenses–it loans them the money to pay expenses, and takes it all back when they die.

"You could call it a "death tax," if that term hadn’t been taken. Next year, Americans who die with more than five million dollars in assets will pay 40% in taxes. Americans who die on Medicaid will pay 100% of their Medicaid expenses before their heirs get one penny.

"Family farm? Gone. Mom and Pop shop? Gone. Nana’s house, with her snow-white picket fence around her prize-winning garden? Gone, gone, gone. 

"Is there a way around this problem? There is not supposed to be, for long-term care expenses. The system is designed to loan money to people who have no assets, and to recover as much government money as possible from people who do have assets. Lots of people have tried to hide their assets from the government, with limited success. In particular, parents may not deed their houses over to their children to evade their debts–if they do, and incur medical expenses any time during the next 60 months, the children will be required to pay Medicaid back."
In a related by Dr. Jane Orient, titled ORIENT: Medicaid as a Tax on the ‘estates’ of the Poor, Arizona is specifically referenced.  Dr. Orient practices internal medicine in Tucson, AZ, and is executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. She states:

Christians Help Christians with Medical Bills, Refuse Obamacare

Are you a Christian who regularly attends church?  Then, why are you allowing yourself to be victimized by the Leftists and railroaded into Obamacare?  It may be "politically correct" in this country to insult and persecute Christians, but we don’t have to pay for the abortions of those who insult us.  For over two thousand years, Christians have helped others, no matter what their faith, or lack of it.  We have a golden opportunity to practice our faith by helping other Christians.

Right now LD 26 has been taken over by the democrats. We have Ed Ableser, Juan Mendez, and Andrew Sherwood, all Obamacare and Medicaid expansion supporters, at the state level. At the Federal level Kyrsten "Obamacare" Sinema. We are a battle ground district where other districts are solid Conservative. We need the help!
LD 26 is raising money for flyers and marketing to get these Big Government people out of office that are pushing Arizona in the wrong direction. The fund raiser is a Gun Raffle where we are raffling off an AR-15 Rifle. Tickets are $10 a piece, and we need to sell many more!  The raffle drawing is this Tuesday at the LD 26 Christmas party.

I Knew, and They Knew

Shortly after the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010, I knew, as an insurance agent, that any health insurance plan written after that date would be subject to cancellation in 2014. Furthermore, if my customers made any changes to their plans after that date, they would no longer be considered “grandfathered,” and their plans could also be cancelled. 
I knew, the insurance companies knew, and it is inconceivable that President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid didn’t know. They were the ones who wrote the Bill! Every time I heard President Obama or Nancy Pelosi say that “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan, PERIOD,” I knew it wasn’t true. They are now trying to qualify what they promised over and over again, but words do mean something and the word “period” means “period.”
The vulnerable Democrats in Congress are trying to distance themselves from this disastrous law like rats fleeing a sinking ship, but they voted for this bill in 2010, and they have continued to support it until now. Remember, every Republican voted against the Affordable Care Act. This bill was written by, and passed by a Democratic Congress, and no matter how they try to spin the facts, the record stands.

Yavapai County GOP group battles Against Republican Officials Who Refuse to Act Like Republicans

Did you read about the Precinct Committeemen in Yavapai County who voted to censure the so-called "Republicans" who voted for the Medicaid Expansion?  Good for them!   Those who know when somebody is lying to them and have the guts to stand up for their principles voted for the Censure.  They include people like Tom Steele, who rejoined the Republican Party five years ago.  He said the censure represents Republican values. 
What a concept. 
It’s incredible that RINOs like Sen. Steve Pierce (LD1) and Rep. Karen Fann (LD1) were so disappointed that their minions pay more attention to Republican principles than to them and other members of the Ruling Class.  After all, Pierce told the peasants, he had the support of the entire Yavapai County Board of Supervisors!   
Here is what Prince Pierce had to say to his ungrateful underlings:  "I didn’t really hear anyone complaining or writing me; nobody called my office. It’s a shame we have gotten to this instead of letting me hear about it before, but it is what it is."
NOT EXACTLY.  On March 19, 2013, LD1 sent Sen. Pierce and Rep. Karen Fann a Resolution Opposing Gov. Brewer’s Medicaid Expansion.  It was a unanimous vote of all of the LD1 Precinct Committeemen.  LD1 also copied Rep. Andy Tobin, Robert Graham, A. J. LaFaro, Frosty Taylor (who publishes the MCRC Briefs).  They also sent it to me.  (See the entire text on the next page.)
On April 12, 2013, the Area Directors of the Yavapai County Republican Committee approved a Resolution in Opposition to the Governor’s Expansion of Medicaid.  (See the entire text on the next page.)      
LD1 also has a website, where they made it very clear they were out gathering signatures on the Medicaid Expansion referendum.   
Is Pierce’s job to represent his constituents?  Or live in a bubble? 
As for Rep. Fann’s arrogant statement:   "I travel this state daily. I cannot you tell the hundreds, thousands, of people who said they are fed up with what’s going on in the Republican Party right now. The divisiveness. They appreciate everybody’s opinions, but they are tired of all this bickering and fighting."
Gilbert Watch Translation:  " I don’t like the heat you’re giving me for not standing with you on our Republican principles, so knock it off……..peasants."
These RINOs dig deeper and deeper into RINO-land and will call those who abide by the Republican Platform some of the nastiest, most demeaning names their handlers have told them to call us.  We are "TEA party extremists," "divisive," "right-wingers," "fringe." 
Like many of you, I talked with people from several counties as I gathered signatures.  Those who signed (and many who didn’t because they are too disgusted with people like McCain, Brewer, Pierce, and Fann) aren’t fed up with the “bickering” in the Republican Party.  They are glad we are fighting to rid the Republican Party of the RINOs!
