Jennifer Reynolds, creator of Arizonans Against Common Core, speaks all across Arizona, educating communities and parents about the serious problems with Common Core. Ms. Reynolds also leads the Alliance for Sustainable Freedom. Tonight, April 4, 6:00-8:00 pm, she is the guest speaker at the Payson TEA Party, held at Tiny’s Restaurant (600 E. State Highway 260, Payson). Her presentation is titled “Common Core Standards- Rotten to the Core!”
Here is a statement from former Arizona Senator Sylia Allen about Common Core:
"It is important to be informed about this issue. The American educational system is being federalized through implementation of Race to the Top and Common Core Standards. Once Common Core Standards are completely implemented, the federal government will have total control of assessment tools and textbooks used in core subjects. Also a national data collection system called State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) will be used to determine a child’s educational opportunities.
"The number one issue of concern is that it nationalizes our education and takes away state control and what’s left of local control. The second concern is the content of the curriculum especially in relationship to history and social studies. Classical literature has been removed and a new way of doing math is being used. The Common Core Standards focus on changing the social and political values of American Children.
"The Education community in defense of the program claim that the curriculum is superior to what we are using now and will bring up our scores. They also think that it is good for a child in New York to walk into Arizona schools and pick up right where he left off hence the name "Common Core". My reaction is to say that there is nothing from stopping Arizona right now in improving what we teach by returning to a strong basic foundation and bring back local control.
"I believe we have two issues that if implemented will be the final nail in our socialist coffin, ObamaCare and Common Core. SO… please bring a car load of parents and educators to the following meeting.
