A Warmer Planet is a More Peaceful Planet

Dr. Craig D. Idso, a Gilbert resident and senior fellow for environmental policy at The Heartland Institute, as well as coauthor of "Climate Change Reconsidered: 2011 Interim Report of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change," recently published an article in American Thinker: "A Warmer Planet is a More Peaceful Planet."

In Dr. Idso’s article, he takes Solomon Hsiang of Columbia University to task over Hsiang’s work that, according to him, "represents the first major evidence" that warming temperatures foster conditions of civil unrest and war. The media picked this up and repeated it in several major venues. Hsiang’s report was published August 24, 2011 in Nature Magazine.

The problem, stated Dr. Idso, is that "the study is 180 degrees away from reality." He goes on to cite peer-reviewed papers showing that global cooling, not warming, tends to bring about social unrest and human misery.
