This was another huge outpouring of support from our Gilbert community. I was running late and didn’t make it ahead of the motorcycle motorcade. A police officer pulled in front of me, and I was glad he did. I got to see one of the longest lines of motorcycles ever, American flags flying. One by one, they pulled out of the Lifetime Fitness parking lot, heading for Town Hall. I didn’t think this wonderful tribute to an American soldier would ever end, there were so many!
Inside Council Chambers, it was standing room only. Along both walls stood those motorcycle riders. Sgt. First Class Steven Milton was truly overcome, and like the two previous soldiers who have been honored in Gilbert through Operation Welcome Home, he humbly expressed the same sentiment. “I went there to do a job, and I did it. Please support the troops.”
Many of his family members, who had also served in the military stood with him and were also honored.
