Please join me and many other legislators this Thursday April 25th from 11:00 am-11:30 am for a press conference at the Capitol on the House Lawn. We will hear from conservative organizations, senators, representatives and district chairs. They will share why the expansion of Obamacare is a mistake, what the alternative is and what you can do to make a difference. Fourteen other states have already said no to the optional expansion. Let’s make Arizona the 15th.
Obamacare is built on a broken foundation. Expanding it would be like adding a floor to a building that is collapsing. “Parts of Obamacare are starting to fray, even before full implementation.” 1
The pro expansion team has held multiple press conferences and events. They have made many arguments as to why we should expand. They have millions of dollars, powerful lobbyists, the full support of the democratic caucus and most of the media. But this decision won’t be made by them. It will be made by your republican state legislators. And I believe with your support they will make the right choice. We have been extremely fortunate to have republican precinct committeeman across this state valiantly fighting the expansion.
The expansion will result in a massive growth of the welfare state. It will put an estimated 400,000 more Arizonans on the rolls of Medicaid and ultimately require sharp tax increases or deep cuts in education and other state programs. If we ever hope to structurally balance our budget again we must reject the expansion. The short term infusion of federal dollars is not worth the long term pain the expansion will create for Arizona.
Our campaign is one of restoring freedom. The freedom for more health coverage choices, from hospital taxes, from government overreach, future financial crisis and the freedom that comes from saying no to federal dollars that are simply an enticement to force us to administer their programs at our expense.
