As a follow-up to a previous post titled Jeff Flake: The Only Republican to Vote for the Judge Who Blocked Release of Fetal Body Sales Videos, on Monday, Aug. 3, San Francisco federal Judge Orrick extended his restraining order against the Center for Medical Progress.
Judge Orrick, ruling against release of videos that could be prima facie evidence of the murder of born alive infants and subsequent sale of their body parts, stated:
"Based on the record before me, I find that NAF (National Abortion Federation) is likely to prevail on the merits of its claims, the balance of hardships tips in its favor, NAF would be likely to suffer irreparable injury, absent an ex parte temporary restraining order, in the form of harassment, intimidation, violence, invasion of privacy, and injury to reputation, and the requested relief is in the public interest."
On the same day, a federal judge in Idaho ruled in favor of undercover citizen journalists who used hidden cameras to film animal abuse and malfeasant factory farm practices. The title of their video is "Mercy for Animals." The secret recordings are protected under the First Amendment, the judge found.
