A Resolution of the Legislative District 25 Republicans in Opposition to Arizona Governor Janice K. Brewer’s Proposed Expansion of Medicaid (AHCCCS)
WHEREAS the Voters of Arizona clearly expressed their will to reject implementation of the Affordable Care-Act (commonly known as Obamacare) and the individual mandate when they voted to amend the Arizona Constitution via Proposition 106 in 2010; and
WHEREAS the long term and evolving costs of the Governor’s proposed Medicaid Expansion are unsustainable going forward and will contribute to the eventual bankruptcy of the State of Arizona just as surely as Obamacare is now contributing to the eventual bankruptcy of the United States; and
WHEREAS the expansion of Medicaid in Arizona will add to a burgeoning national debt that will ultimately be passed on to future generations, an irresponsible and dangerous course of action that will further rob future Arizonans of their economic freedom; and
WHEREAS supporting a government takeover of Arizona’s health care system to secure large amounts of federal funds is not in the best interest of the Arizonans and Americans of today; and
WHEREAS the so-called "assessment" on hospitals is in reality a tax increase and, as such, requires the approval of a super-majority of the state legislature to take effect; and
WHEREAS the labeling of this tax increase as an “assessment” seeks to circumvent the super-majority rule for tax increases; and
WHEREAS no government entitlement program has ever been effectively scaled back, eliminated, or held within its initial costs projections once implemented; and
WHEREAS the US Supreme Court explicitly ruled that each State is free to reject implementation of the Obamacare Medicaid Expansion and Insurance Exchanges, two cornerstones of the Affordable Care Act without which Obamacare collapses as a practical functioning program; and
WHEREAS the fastest and most efficient way to end Obamacare short of congressional action is for states to simply refuse the expansion of Medicaid as well as the establishment of Insurance Exchanges; and
WHEREAS the State of Arizona should continue to demonstrate the leadership on this issue that it has shown on in the past.
NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED by the Legislative District 25 Republicans that we do declare our firm opposition to the Governor’s plan to expand Medicaid in the State of Arizona; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the elected PCs of the Legislative District 25 Republicans do call on their Senator and Representatives at the State Capitol to oppose the expansion of Medicaid in the State of Arizona; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that, upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Governor Brewer, the State Legislators of LD 25 as well as the respective Chairmen of the MCRC and the Arizona Republican Party.
