In this undercover video, Ms. Dianne Barrow, a regional sales executive at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, one of the country’s leading textbook publishers and profiteers of Common Core, admits: "You don’t think the educational publishing companies are in it for education, do you? Are you crazy? It’s all about the money. They’re in it for the money." A Brooklyn school teacher confirms that statement: "Oh my God, it’s all a money game. It’s all a money game." Keith Williams from P.S. 140, Brooklyn agrees: "The publishing companies are the winners in this game."
Ms. Barrow considers parents who home school their children to be, at best, naive, at worst, stupid. She states: "Home schoolers….I’m sorry, did you go to school to be a teacher? Another video surfaced, in which Amelia Petties, Strategic Account Executive, Houghton-Mifflin states, "“And slapping a new name on it, which in my case I hope they do…I can sell a sh** ton of training around whatever you’re calling it.” Click HERE to see the video.
Ms. Barrow’s statements shouldn’t come as a surprise. School districts across Arizona started dumping their “old” textbooks and, at great cost, buying new “Common Core-aligned” texts as soon as the Common Core standards were adopted in 2010 by the Arizona State Board of Education.
Arizona’s school districts also started buying new computers. Microsoft’s Bill Gates has invested at least $6 billion in "college and career ready standards" aka Common Core. The federal government spent $4.3 billion. That doesn’t include the plethora of “non-profits” whose chairmen, presidents, and CEO’s have been raking in millions of personal compensation to promote Common Core. The truth is, Common Core’s standards are substandard and age-inappropriate. Calling them “high quality" and "world class” is merely a lie repeated a million times thanks to billions of dollars of marketing.
Educating our children should be in the hands of high quality teachers. Take the "one-size-fits-all" handcuffs off! Teachers know how to properly educate children better than principals, superintendents, state boards of education, or the U.S. Department of Education.
