The State Board of Education (SBE) members Jared Taylor, Chuck Schmidt and Greg Miller (President) had a meeting on May 13 to select the 17 members on the new "Arizona Standards Development Committee" which was directed by Governor Ducey to "Replace Common Core."
Here are the 17-members of the "Arizona Standards Development Committee" that were selected:
Four members of the the State Board of Education, including the Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI):
President Greg Miller
Chuck Schmidt
Jared Taylor
Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas
Two members representing the business community:
Maureen Tozzi, Sales and Marketing, Tucson
Dr. Richard Rutowski, Family Medicine Doctor, Fountain Hills
Three Deans of Colleges of Education or directors of Board-Approved teacher preparation programs, with at least one representative of an institution under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Board of Regents, and one representative of an institution under the jurisdiction of an Arizona Community College:
Dr. Mari Koerner, ASU Dean of the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College
Dr. Nora Reyes, Mesa Community College Dean of Education
Dr. Karol Schmidt, Grand Canyon University Associate Professor and Program Division Lead
Three parents, including one parent of an elementary, middle, or high school child:
Olga Tarro, Oro Valley (elementary parent)
Grant Peterson, Gilbert (middle school parent)
Dexter Albert, Flagstaff (high school parent)
One Elementary Classroom Teacher:
Jan Ogino, Marshall Ranch Elementary, Peoria Unified
One Secondary Classroom Teacher:
Christine Marsh, Chaparral High School English Teacher, Scottsdale Unified School District
One administrator of an Arizona Charter School:
Dr. Lynn Robershotte, Eduprize Schools
One administrator of an Arizona Unified School District:
Dr. Matthew Strom, Chandler Unified School District (CUSD)
One member of a School District Governing Board:
Scott Leska, Amphitheater Unified School District (Tuscon)
The duties of this 17-member "Arizona Standards Development Committee" is attached in the SBE document. The two subcommittees and their members, for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, who will develop the new "Arizona Standards" will be determined by this 17-member "Arizona Standards Development Committee."
The State Board of Education (SBE) is opening up the "application window" so more applications can be submitted for these two subcommittees. How many members will be on these ELA and Mathematics subcommittees; what is the deadline for submitting your application if you did not have the opportunity to submit your application and resume on the first round; and when will the ELA and Mathematics Subcommittee members be announced; has not yet been determined by the 17-member "Arizona Standards Development Committee."
