If the Economy is “Recovering,” why are so many Companies Laying off Workers?
I keep hearing and reading "statistics" that report that the American economy is recovering….ever so slightly. Which companies? Manufacturing? Small businesses? The oil industry? Banking? Who are they?
Gilbert public employees got a huge raise recently, and Gilbert plans to hire more government workers. Gilbert school teachers got a small raise. But growing government destroys wealth. Private workers create wealth.
If you know of some private, not-tax-subsidized companies that are hiring massive amounts of employees, please let me know!

Bank of America said to cut 2,100 workers in Mortgage Slump.
Mortgage lenders are paring staff as higher interest rates discourage refinancing and cast doubt on how long the housing market rebound will last. Wells Fargo & Co., the biggest U.S. home lender, plans more than 2,300 job cuts, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. may dismiss 15,000. Bank of America’s pending home loans fell 5 percent at the end of June from the previous quarter.

The AFA has written an excellent "After Action Review" of the challenges that we who fought tooth and nail, hammer and tong, to gather signatures, faced. It is very important to go back and honestly assess any serious project after it concludes, whether you won or lost, and no matter how painful the moment of Truth might be. We must face our mistakes so we can correct them. We must document our successes, so we can repeat them. As for Gilbert Watch, we should have asked for donations to URAPC.ORG, over and over and over. duh.

We all know that the Governor imposed what is surely an illegal "hospital bed tax" on sick people in Arizona. She did it just like all the Democrats do it…. at 3:00 am with the help of 100% of the Democrats in the House and Senate and 15 liberal Republicans.
"Let’s draw a contrast between the Democrats’ effort to challenge HB2305 at the ballot box and the Conservatives effort to challenge an expansion of government at the ballot box.
"1. The Democrats were dedicated to their cause. The Democrat leadership and the wealthy Democrats around the country donated the money needed to gather 146,028 signatures to be able to continue voter fraud in Arizona. It is estimated that they spent in the neighborhood of $400,000 or more to do that. The Dems know they can’t win if they have to compete on ideas in order to win. No supportive emails encouraging these PCs to get in the battle. No press conferences called in support of the efforts of grassroots Republicans. And most of the precinct committeemen who are also charged with the responsibility of upholding the principles of the party platform also did not help. Score 1 more for the Democrats!"
Yavapai County GOP group battles Against Republican Officials Who Refuse to Act Like Republicans
Did you read about the Precinct Committeemen in Yavapai County who voted to censure the so-called "Republicans" who voted for the Medicaid Expansion? Good for them! Those who know when somebody is lying to them and have the guts to stand up for their principles voted for the Censure. They include people like Tom Steele, who rejoined the Republican Party five years ago. He said the censure represents Republican values.
What a concept.
It’s incredible that RINOs like Sen. Steve Pierce (LD1) and Rep. Karen Fann (LD1) were so disappointed that their minions pay more attention to Republican principles than to them and other members of the Ruling Class. After all, Pierce told the peasants, he had the support of the entire Yavapai County Board of Supervisors!
Here is what Prince Pierce had to say to his ungrateful underlings: "I didn’t really hear anyone complaining or writing me; nobody called my office. It’s a shame we have gotten to this instead of letting me hear about it before, but it is what it is."
NOT EXACTLY. On March 19, 2013, LD1 sent Sen. Pierce and Rep. Karen Fann a Resolution Opposing Gov. Brewer’s Medicaid Expansion. It was a unanimous vote of all of the LD1 Precinct Committeemen. LD1 also copied Rep. Andy Tobin, Robert Graham, A. J. LaFaro, Frosty Taylor (who publishes the MCRC Briefs). They also sent it to me. (See the entire text on the next page.)
On April 12, 2013, the Area Directors of the Yavapai County Republican Committee approved a Resolution in Opposition to the Governor’s Expansion of Medicaid. (See the entire text on the next page.)
LD1 also has a website, where they made it very clear they were out gathering signatures on the Medicaid Expansion referendum.
Is Pierce’s job to represent his constituents? Or live in a bubble?
As for Rep. Fann’s arrogant statement: "I travel this state daily. I cannot you tell the hundreds, thousands, of people who said they are fed up with what’s going on in the Republican Party right now. The divisiveness. They appreciate everybody’s opinions, but they are tired of all this bickering and fighting."
Gilbert Watch Translation: " I don’t like the heat you’re giving me for not standing with you on our Republican principles, so knock it off……..peasants."
These RINOs dig deeper and deeper into RINO-land and will call those who abide by the Republican Platform some of the nastiest, most demeaning names their handlers have told them to call us. We are "TEA party extremists," "divisive," "right-wingers," "fringe."
Like many of you, I talked with people from several counties as I gathered signatures. Those who signed (and many who didn’t because they are too disgusted with people like McCain, Brewer, Pierce, and Fann) aren’t fed up with the “bickering” in the Republican Party. They are glad we are fighting to rid the Republican Party of the RINOs!

The Arizona Republican Party Platform that our Republican leaders Have Never Read
There are two issues of critical importance to all law-abiding, taxpaying American citizens–ObamaCare (and one of its cornerstones: Medicaid Expansion) and "Immigration" (aka Amnesty) Reform. How have our elected representatives voted on these issues? According to Republican Party principles and the Party Platform? Or something else?
Here is the Arizona Republican Party Platform, as found on the AZGOP Homepage. To many Republicans, it’s a collection of quaint, outdated meaningless trash. I suppose they won’t change any of it to suit their actual voting record, because if they did, they would see a massive exodus from the Republican party.
In fact, anyone who stands up for the Platform is, according to the Leftsts and Ruling Class Republicans, a "wacko bird, extremist, racist, hard right Tea-bagger."

This Evening Briefs Received Some Interesting Comparison Figures Sent To “Arizona Town Crier” Jim Ehl:
Here is one reply to the Arizona Town Crier email titled ‘County Results’ that noted the results by county to the URAPC effort to derail ‘Brewercare’.
“I think to be fair to all counties the registered voter numbers should be considered in terms of petition signatures. I suspect you’ll find that on a registered voter basis, the smaller counties out performed the two gorillas of the state (Maricopa and Pima). And credit should be granted where credit is due.”
As you may recall, the total number of signatures collected was 81,459 of which 48,230 was turned in by Maricopa County, which equates to about 59% of the signatures collected. So lets play the numbers game as noted by the reader. By the way, this is not to take away from the hard work that went into this effort. To form an organization such as the URAPC and try what they did without party support is an almost impossible task, and yet they almost succeeded. Back to the numbers.
Now, based on the number of registered voters in the county, and the number of signatures collected here are the results:

Pima — 3%
Cochise — 2%
Graham — 2%
Yavapai — 2%

It is interesting to note that Apache, Coconino, Greenlee, Navajo, Pima, and Santa Cruz counties have more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. Although one only needed to be a registered voter to sign a petition, citizen’s initiative, the name URAPC, an acronym for United Republic Alliance Of Principled Conservatives may have been a turn off for many liberals. This was an effort by CONSERVATIVES and this little numbers game goes to show just where in the state the counties put out the most effort.

Brewer will headline a fundraiser on Sept. 20 for the 13 remaining GOP lawmakers who voted for her Medicaid plan. A flyer for the fundraiser urges people to join Brewer at the Paradise Valley home of Vanguard Health Systems executive Reginald Ballantyne III, “in support of our healthcare heroes.”

A flyer for the fundraiser suggests that people and political action committees that want to support the lawmakers make $500 contributions. It notes that a 2013 law increasing Arizona’s campaign contribution limits, which had previously been set at $440 for legislative candidates, goes into effect on Sept. 13.
During the rancorous debate over Medicaid expansion, grassroots conservatives vowed to target pro-expansion Republicans in their 2014 reelections. In response, Brewer pledged to support the Republicans who joined her coalition, which consisted of the Democratic caucuses in each legislative chamber and a handful of GOP supporters.
A 14th Republican who voted for Medicaid expansion, former Sen. Rich Crandall, has since resigned from the Legislature."
GILBERT WATCH NOTE: Republican David Farnsworth (LD16) has been appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to replace Sen. Rich Crandall. Farnsworth is a former AZ legislator in the early ’90s from Northern AZ. Here’s some information from Project Vote Smart.
THE LAST DAY: PETITION SIGNATURES & PETITION DROP-OFF LOCATIONS
According to Christine Bauserman, Chairman of URAPC, we do NOT have the minimum number of signatures yet! It is time for all of us to get our second (fortieth?) wind and get busy!
This is what some valiant, freedom-loving signature gatherers are doing before turning in their petitions to Christine Bauserman at the State Capitol: They are working their neighborhoods. They are also getting lots of signatures by standing in grocery store parking lots and greeting the customers as they get out of their cars. They stay for only 15 to 20 minutes and then go to another store, before a grocery store employee asks them to leave! (Hit and Run without killing anybody!)

Signatures are being gathered at five stations surrounding the Mesa Arizona Temple. Please note that signature gathering is being done on CITY PROPERTY surrounding the temple property, not the temple grounds, and that the sacred nature that the temple holds for the LDS community is being maintained. Governor Brewer’s PAC Restoring Arizona has received $364,000 trying to Stop the Voters!
It’s no secret that Governor Jan Brewer will do whatever it takes to stop the Medicaid Expansion decision from going to the voters. Her favorite PAC, Restoring Arizona, has received $364,000 and spent nearly as much to stop the ballot referendum.
